As of 9 September 2026, the strongest current reference points include final 2025 US commercial data, US results for the second quarter of 2026, Great Britain’s April 2024 to March 2025 annual series and a European 2024 provisional estimate. None is a completed 2026 global total.

The revised US 2025 total

The American Gaming Association’s February 2026 release initially reported 2025 commercial gaming revenue of $78.72 billion. The later State of the States 2026 report, released in May, gives $78.62 billion, with $51.06 billion from traditional casino gaming, $16.89 billion from sports betting and $10.73 billion from iGaming. This article uses the later report rather than averaging the two publications. Revisions are normal when a preliminary tracker is replaced by a fuller annual account. Mixing the early total with later product lines would create an internally inconsistent table.

The report says iGaming grew 27.6% in 2025 and sports betting revenue grew 22.6%. Those growth rates describe the AGA commercial scope. They do not include every tribal operation or every form of online wagering in the United States.

What the second quarter of 2026 adds

The AGA’s tracker for April through June 2026 reports $20.39 billion in total commercial gaming revenue. It breaks out $13.43 billion from traditional gaming, $3.91 billion from sports betting and $3.03 billion from iGaming. Sports betting handle was $38.84 billion, producing a reported hold of 10.1%. AGA Commercial Gaming Revenue Tracker

That quarter is useful for direction, not a substitute for a full-year result. Four quarters can have different sport calendars, state launches and comparative bases. Multiplying Q2 by four would be a projection invented by the reader, not a reported 2026 statistic.

Handle and revenue also answer different questions. The $38.84 billion handle is the amount wagered in sports betting within the scope. The $3.91 billion revenue figure is the retained gross measure reported by the tracker. Our GGR and NGR explainer shows why neither should be labelled profit.

Great Britain’s regulatory series

The UK Gambling Commission’s annual statistics for April 2024 to March 2025 report £16.8 billion in total GGY including lotteries. Excluding lotteries, the figure is £12.6 billion. Remote casino, betting and bingo produced £7.8 billion, including £5.0 billion of remote casino GGY and £2.6 billion of remote betting GGY. UK Gambling Commission annual statistics

This is a Great Britain series. GB means England, Scotland and Wales; it does not mean the entire United Kingdom. The Commission’s current regulatory guidance tells licensees to exclude Northern Ireland from GB-only questions.

The regulator uses gross gambling yield and defines it for reporting as stakes plus certain direct accruals minus prizes. It explicitly distinguishes GGY from GGR in its returns guidance. UK Gambling Commission GGY guidance

Europe: a provisional market estimate

The European Gaming and Betting Association, working with H2 Gambling Capital, published a 2024 provisional estimate for the EU-27 and UK. It puts total gambling GGR at €123.4 billion and online GGR at €47.9 billion, or 39% of the total. Land-based revenue was estimated at €75.5 billion. EGBA European market figures

The source labels 2024 provisional and later years estimates. This draft does not present its 2026 forecast as observed 2026 revenue. That distinction is particularly important in an article titled “statistics 2026”: the publication year is not the measurement year.

Why the numbers should not be ranked

Three incompatibilities prevent a clean league table.

First, the currencies differ. Converting dollars, pounds and euros would introduce an exchange-rate date and still not fix the scope.

Second, the product coverage differs. The AGA tracks US commercial gaming and identifies product and jurisdiction limits. The UKGC measures regulated Great Britain activity and includes lottery rows in its total. The EGBA figure combines EU-27 and UK estimates.

Third, the status differs. A regulator return, an industry association’s final report, a quarterly tracker and a provisional model are not equal observations.

How to cite a gambling statistic correctly

A usable citation needs six fields: metric, value, currency, period, geography and source status. Add the product scope when it is not obvious. “Online gambling is worth 47.9 billion” fails because it omits four of those fields. “EGBA and H2 provisionally estimated EU-27 and UK online gambling GGR at €47.9 billion for 2024” is traceable.

The next update to this page should not merely replace every number with something newer. It should preserve the historical period, add a new row, record revisions and update the checked date. Statistics become useful when their measurement boundaries remain visible.
