Rank closed Grosvenor casinos in Swansea, Reading Central and Sunderland during July to September, the company disclosed in its 15 October trading update. It attributed the decisions to the venues' medium-term economic viability.

The same report puts Grosvenor's like-for-like net gaming revenue at £108.1 million, up 6%. That comparison excludes the effect of closed clubs. Growth in that measure does not mean every local casino remained viable.

The closures preceded the announcement

Rank places all three closures within the quarter ended 30 September 2026. It does not give a separate final trading date for each site. The 15 October publication date is the date of this update, not a common closure date for the casinos.

Reading Central is the location named in the report. The announcement does not say that all Grosvenor venues in Reading shut. For someone planning a visit, the exact venue name matters more than a group revenue total.

What the growth number leaves out

This was the first quarter of Rank's 2026/27 financial year: 1 July to 30 September. Its comparisons are with the corresponding period a year earlier, rather than the previous three months.

The company's like-for-like calculation removes the effects of club closures, currency movements and business disposals. It also excludes new markets that have not been open for more than 12 months. The 6% figure is adjusted for those changes; it does not cover every site that traded in either period.

Rank defines net gaming revenue, or NGR, as gross gaming revenue less customer incentives. It is not profit. Our guide to GGR and NGR explains why a revenue measure needs its definition before it can be compared with another operator's figures. Across the group, Rank reported like-for-like NGR of £216.1 million, up 5%.

The distinction is practical: a headline about rising revenue answers a different question from whether a particular branch is still available. The quarterly update does not set out customer arrangements for the three closed sites. It cannot establish whether a booking was moved, a balance transferred or a refund is due in an individual case.

Customers with those questions should contact Grosvenor through its official service channels and identify the specific venue. Before travelling, check that the intended casino is operating; the report's financial comparison is not a venue directory.
